Outside scholarships are funds awarded to a student by a third party or outside organization from Temple University. Third parties include agencies, organizations, communities, high schools or persons not affiliated with Temple University or any of its campuses. These awards will be applied to the student e-bill and/or refunded to the student as approved by the organization. The SFS office will apply all scholarship awards to the student account for the year (evenly split between the fall and spring terms).
Under federal law and Temple University policy, any outside scholarship a student receives must be taken into account when determining eligibility for need-based financial aid and loans. Students must report all anticipated outside scholarships and any other outside financial resources to the Student Financial Services office.
The Office of Student Financial Services (SFS) cannot accept forms sent via email. Please review below for more information.

Undergraduate Students
The outside aid will first be used to cover unmet financial need as calculated from the institutional cost of attendance, less the family contribution and less all other financial aid. After unmet need has been exhausted, adjustments to federal student loans and/or work-study will be made as necessary. Temple institutional grants will only be adjusted after the loans and work study portion of the aid have been reduced and the amount of the additional resources still exceeds the unmet need. Temple institutional scholarships will not be affected. The total amount of all financial aid, scholarships and loans cannot exceed the cost of attendance.
Graduate Students
The total amount of all financial aid, scholarships and loans cannot exceed the cost of attendance. Students may not accept multiple awards that duplicate coverage of tuition, fees or other educational expenses.
To report outside scholarship(s) payments that will be sent to Temple University on behalf of a student, the student must send a copy of the notification letter of the scholarship or award to SFS prior to receiving the funds. These letters help notify Temple University that payment is forthcoming. Copies of these letters should be emailed the Student Financial Services office, Outside Scholarships.
